Children

'It's a joy to be hidden, but a tragedy not to be found.' W.D. Winnicott

Children often play a game of hide and seek with their feelings, wanting to be seen and heard and, at the same time, wanting to hide and be private. Therapy can help them to find ways to express themselves and to learn boundaries so that they feel more equipped to deal with the challenges of growing up.

Children are referred by their parents or guardians. I will talk to whoever is responsible for the child as an ongoing part of the process, so that they can express their concerns and see how their child is progressing.

Parents often come with feelings of guilt or shame when their child is having problems. It's important to know that I'm not interested in blame when it comes to a child's distress, I'm interested in understanding what might be difficult to say, so that your child can find a way to express what's inside and to help you to help them.

Children often communicate through behaviour and play. I offer children a space to show me what is going on inside, through sand tray play, arts and crafts.

Adolescents

Adolescence is a turbulent time, when strong emotions tend to come up with a surge of hormones. Everything is intensified. Relationships become tricky to navigate. People form groups and search for a sense of belonging. Necessary time alone is often avoided by staying online, to feel somewhat connected to other people. Online interactions can be beneficial, but they ca also be toxic and fuel insecurities.

Teenagers who come for therapy with me are invited to talk. They are welcome to draw or doodle while we talk, if they feel shy or awkward.

If you're a teenager looking for a place to talk about in private, with no judgment, call or email me. If you decide to come and see me, I will need your parents to know you are coming, but I won't tell them what you tell me without your consent.

If you're a parent concerned about your teenager, call me to discuss how therapy might help.
